About Me
Hi!
Thanks for stopping by! I am a Latinx human, a voracious reader, a neurodivergent thinker, a readalouder, and for the last 20 years, an educator. My pronouns in English are she~her and in Spanish ella.
After thirteen years teaching in an inclusive, bilingual classroom, I decided to transition to teaching in the heart of the school, the library. As a teacher-librarian I have the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with ALL readers at my campus, and establish deep ties within our community.
At the library I enjoy the daily adventure of helping young readers develop their reader identity by connecting them with books that speak to their hearts and their personal story. I also treat young readers with the respect they deserve by letting them decide what stories, topics, and interests they wish to explore through stories and research. I defend their right to choose what they read in heartfelt conversations with the adults in their lives and in our school.
We've learned so much about ourselves and each other by discussing, reading, learning, and sharing our experiences and our identities through an anti-bias and anti-racist lens. I dedicate time to research and receiving and sharing Anti-Bias and Anti-Racist (ABAR) education as a means of personal and professional growth, to serve my students and meet their needs to the best of my abilities. This has also lead to consistent efforts to develop a diverse library collection where all of our readers can learn about themselves and those around them.
I also share our experiences in the library, how we have pursued ABAR topics and grown from these experiences through presentations at educator conferences and by developing Educator Guides that help other educators commit to ABAR work and provide their students with the experiences my students have enjoyed, learned from, and shared with their families.
